Have any of you ever sent off your DNA to one of those Ancestry Places?
Are they very accurate?
Would you consider it?
If not why?
If so why?
What are the pros and cons?

I just think it's strange, reminds me of pleckers list, why is what I think, why would they want our bloodline in the first place, does the Government want to know ??? And why???

My guess is that they are vague and you would have to read between the lines a lot to really focus on yourself.
I don't think they are of actual value and thus not worth the money . Just my guess . Saw a great infomercial one
night though ! :-q :-q :bs:

It isn't important to me at all either.
I have trust issues with the whole thing.
It has become SOP for everyone who gets arrested now days.
It's like the government is doing everything they can to get a DNA data base completed for some reason and that is unsettling to me.
Unless you are a rapist or a murderer why?
Makes no sense.
Now they have these ancestry LLC's that do it because "It's all about you." (Right)

So, I went to one of their sites and this is what they say............

Can my DNA information ever be disclosed without my consent?
Generally no.

But there are some very limited circumstances where your DNA test results could be disclosed to third parties without your express consent. For example:
· As may be required by law with regulatory and law enforcement authorities;
· To prevent fraud or cybercrime (i.e.) to protect the rights or property of AncestryDNA or other Users (including outside your country of residence).
· To enforce our terms and conditions; to protect our rights, privacy, safety, confidentiality, reputation or property, and/or that of Ancestry family of companies, you or others.

Sounds real secure to me BUT remember, it's NOT!

I don't understand the importance of it, I don't trust it, it does remind me of pleckers as pleckers list to plecker the census helped keep up with the mixed races in the states, very twisted man, back in the day when they did a census on a family if the child or adult was of dark skin or had thick lips they marked the mixed even if they weren't, pleckers list google it Lori, it's a good read, I wish I still had my old computer I would throw you some very interesting reads, I real don't know why the lds is keeping our ancestry in the. First place

I did one.... it is interesting but its kind of hard to follow for me...

they tell you what your genetic make up is, you know Irish, German, English, etc.... it can be helpful if you have American Indian blood and want to do either document it or just know for your own self....

Most people looking for their Indian heritage that I know want to go to college with all the same benifits that full blood Indians have but for the Indian nations to claim the person as their own, I do believe they go by what they call Quatum drops , I know I spelled it wrong but Annie hay, if a person just wants to know Indian heritage go to the first or second dawes roll, my family are there, but I don't think it is enough to join the creek nation, Cherokees are forgiving of lesser drops and they will take you into the Cherokee tribe, other than just wanting to know what other than white means on my ancestors census, I see no. Reason for me to do a DNA

With all the race issues going on........I'm afraid certain people may access it to use in some way as in claiming that because a person is too white or not white enough they only have a right to certain opinions and such, which to me is complete bull. A person's ability to empathize with others, care for others, no matter what, it the only thing that matters to me. No dna test is going to change that for me and it shouldn't be able to influence what others think I should think either............. @};-

It is interesting though to see your genetic make up... mine came up with a teeny bit of Ashkenazi Jewish, who knew?? not a clue for me but it was a bit interesting to find out...

I dont believe our genes have anything to do with the kind of person we are either, Lorelei, its a product of our upbringing and how our personalities develop, at least thats how I feel....

we grew up being told we were part American Indian, Cherokee, but you know the DNA testing shows nothing, so if we are we arent as much as we were told... amazing how stories get told through the years.. :p

A lot of children back in the day were told they had Indian blood because a lot of people would except Indian blood before they would African America, it was fear... Fear of being hung,,, being hurt, ... I have researched my family history, I have seen other than white on more than a few census, but in reality we all came from immigrants, the Irish more than most for me, but no matter my bloodline, I really don't care either way, but, the DNA project does make me think it's a government program hidden behind ancestry websites, and there are way too many hate sites/groups out here, there is one that in order for anyone to be part of it, they have to denounce all other bloodlines and claim to be pure white blood, just strange to me

I saw a commercial about one of these ancestry DNA tests that says they can not only tell you your bloodline but all these other traits as well.
Can you imagine what health insurance companies can do with this sort of information?
Not to mention government and the many other agencies that we aren't even aware of......
I don't worry near as much about the bloodline trace as I do about others.
Who knows what all these data banks are being used for?
And we know how phone companies, internet, library, schools, churches, stores, med centers and anyone who can find a way to profit off of us already do and come to find out, they have been for many, many years........Without our knowledge or permission so why would anyone think these DNA agencies are any different?
I think it's a bit naive to think they wouldn't sell our information.
There's Nothing in the history of "Information" that tells us they wouldn't.
So, if someone says this is "Paranoid" I say they are either very "Naive" or a flat out "Liar" @};-
