Post subject: What would you do?
Unread postPosted: September 10th, 2012, 5:22 pm

Be honest,,,,,,

A large company (not a bank) makes an error lets say 5 or 10 grand or any amount really large in your favor, do you call them and let them know? Do you keep quiet and go about your business as usual?

I'll start, I would just wait for a year or so always keeping that $$ set aside in reserve and see if their accounting department figures it out all the while gaining interest from the amount and then happily give them what they are owed, (if they catch it) And if they never figure it out it will be a business loss on their tax return thus helping them balance their books anyway. Win win situation. :D

Discuss.

Well, I would call them and tell them, only cuz I worked in a bank for 25 years, and have been on the other end of that mistake. :ymblushing: Never that big though. lol

Reread the post, I said NOT a bank. Just some huge retailer or corporation.

Okay LS, I would call the retail, cuz after 25 years in banking I have been on the other end of that mistake, and I know what it feels like. They are going to find it, it may take years but they will find it, Unless it's the U.S. Gov. Cuz they just don't care where the money's going. :D :)) :)) :))

I would feel way too guilty. I am a strong believer in Karma, and its just not worth it. ;) :ymhug:

Ok your answer is acceptable now :))

P.S. I also believe karma works both ways. ;)

If you don't say anything, and the mistake is caught, you can be prosecuted. It's like finding a bag of money and not turning it in.

Ok barring that because it's an overseas company that cannot or has no legal recourse in this country, then what?

Sheesh tough crowd. Now answer the question.

If it's not your money you have no moral right to keep it. Would you want somebody to keep your money if you made the mistake?

I already gave my answer, what is yours? You would make a great politician, you dance all around the question without actually answering it. :))

I'd give it back. I bought a Marshall Stack Amp when I was 18 drove 200 kms to my home before realizing the money was still in my pocket (only 1800 bucks). I drove back and paid the guy.

My dad taught me. if it ain't yours....don't even think of taking it. And I am happy to say both my sons would do the exact same thing.
